not much of a loss because I have most of that through the 1961 paper

Something like this can only come from people who see their authority as

God = Tooth Fairy - a fair comparison?

Sometimes atheists refer to the existence of God as being as credible as the existence of the tooth fairy/Santa/fairies, etc. Believers are often offended by this, since everyone over the age of 6 knows that the tooth fairy is not real, yet to them, God is as real as any human.

So is there a difference between God and the tooth fairy?

There is at least one difference: the number of adults who firmly believe in the reality of a supreme being. When children grow up, they stop believing in fairies and frogs that turn into handsome princes, but often they don't stop believing in God. The atheist may assert that there is no difference between the two, but surely there must be some difference or children would naturally grow out of belief in God too.

I think the difference is that the existence of a supreme being provides an explanation of the natural world and its origins in a way that satisfies our 'common sense'. We naturally tend to equate the...

Our paper, I can't remember if it was the Parade magazine, that I think just about everyone in the US gets in their Sunday paper, anyway, there was an article about the beliefs of the early Christians. I just didn't have the interest to read the whole thing, but skimmed some of it and it was enough to worry me that some who left the jws might read that and wonder if the jws do have the "truth." It was an article about how Christianity has it all wrong, the early Christians and Jesus spoke about God's kingdom here on earth, recited that part of the "Lord's Prayer," about "your kingdom come on earth," that kind of thing. If you have read it, please don't let it scare you. This news is not new. Years ago when I was in college and doiong research on something (naturally I chose jw-belief type topics), I looked up some things in the Catholic Encyclopedia at my university and was absolutely stunned to see that they gave two definitions for lots of things, like spirit, soul, grave,...

I am an 18 year old, and my parents are both Jehova Witnesses, in fact, my father used to be one of those church speakers at one of your weekly meetings! I am now an atheist through my own studies, and as a result, my parents handed me several publications by WatchTower. I read these books with curiosity, but that curiosity quickly turned turned to disgust. Whoever wrote these books is CLEARLY scientifically literate, and I accept that. My problem with these books is that prevailing scientific arguments are obviously side-stepped and ignored. These books (at least the two I have read cover-to-cover) seem to use a tactic of "tell the reader JUST ENOUGH that they believe our idea, but not theirs". I will use a few examples from the most recent of the two books.

TITLE: Was Life Created?
YEAR: 2010

Through the first chapters of this book, the author takes us through a list of some of the most amazing coincidences that make life possible on Earth.
