I'm not American either.
It's scary for my country as a lot of our economy is supported by big American multi national corporations. If the US economy sinks ours will surely follow. Stand toe to toe, trade blow for blow, Keep punchin' till you make your punches tell, Show that crowd what you know! Until you hear that bell, that final bell, Stand up and fight like hell!" - Chorus from the Munster Rugby anthem sung before matches. Irish by birth, Munster by the grace of God |

I can't believe they are trying to put the blame on Social Security and Medicare. Look at the money they are wasting on a usless and devastating war. That
is what is bankrupting the country in my opinion. Bush has been trying to do away with Social Security from the start. Iraq had weopons of mass destruction?
Who has the most weopons of mass destruction? Iran is a rogue nation? What country in this world is invading another nation. Hot Damn! And we're supposed
to be proud to be Americans? I think we are bankrupt, and the little guy at the bottom is going to suffer.

That the american economy isn't doing well is known, and whenever an important part in a society changes there are those who choose to cry doom and
despair. I remember reading about the same thing around the 1970, apparently the world's oil supply would run out WAY before 1980, they had some very
impressive numbers as well.
Over here in holland there is some talk among politicians about europe's coin (the euro) to substitute the weakening dollar, and of america's fall. But like I said, those are always around. Don't worry about it too much before the country's heading becomes obvious. I have to see the "end of america as an economically influencial state" first to believe it. God did not create the universe, think about it. Bad lighting; planets too distant; pestered with comets; feeble contrivance; could make a better universe

Yes Social Security has had a negative impact on the US Economy.
Yes Medicare has also had a negative impact on the US Economy and a HUGE negative impact on the Healthcare system overall. (see http://www.theobjectivestandard.com/issues/2007-winter/moral-vs-universal-health-care.asp for a very thorough explanation) Yes the war(s) have had a negative impact on the US Economy. But by far the biggest destroyer of the US Economy is the Federal Reserve. Our monetary system is monopolized by the Federal Reserve. The outcome is inevitable and was doomed from the start. The US Dollar will continue to lose value. It has already lost over 98% of its value since the Federal Reserve was instituted. Watch this very informative video to learn the history behind the entity that controls our money which is not actually "Federal" and has no "Reserve". http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8537051485267127055&q=federal+reserve&ei=7bEISLmKHJyO4wKesqyvAQ&hl=en The current Housing debt crisis is a result of a combination of Government Regulations discouraging prudent fiscal discrimination and a reckless Fiscal Policy which created an artificial low-interest market. And now the Government thinks it can fix its mess using the same methods that created it in the first place. (Tax-payer subsidized bailouts, more regulation, lower interest rates and creating more money)
"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning." - Henry Ford "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies . . . If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] . . . will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered . . . The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." -- Thomas Jefferson -- The Debate Over The Recharter Of The Bank Bill, (1809) |

The current Housing debt crisis is a result of a combination of Government Regulations.... Are you seriously suggesting that the subprime mortgage meltdown in the US was caused by TOO MUCH government regulation of the financial industry?

I occasionaly listen to Larry and Chuck Bates, two former bankers turned religous right wing fanatics, it's quite funny listening to them sometimes, and
also quite eye opening at to which extent right wing fundies will go to...watch your back your liable to be shot by these sort of people. But they do make some
interesting points regarding our banking system. They believe the Federal Reserve Bank is actually in control of the white house, not the pres., and how banks
are now more powerful than the government.
There's another show by some guy who used to be a mormon and does little 30 minute talks about cults on the radio. Last week he played a DVD where some reporters have discovered closed door meetings between congressmen/women and some unknowns. It supposedly has leaked out that come September of 08, there will be a final, catastrophic meltdown of the US currency. http://www.leap2020.eu/GEAB-N-22-is-available!-Global-systemic-crisis-September-2008-Phase-of-collapse-of-US-real-economy_a1298.html |

Kingsmeg wrote: Yes that's exactly what I'm suggesting. The problem stems in a large part from idiot regulators who have no vested interest in the industry and don't understand basic banking/business principals on top of that. This Commentary gives a pretty good quick review of what was involved during regulation: Taken from http://www.independent.org/newsroom/article.asp?id=2114
