I recently came across several boxes of 35mm slides. When I was a child in the 60s, my parents bought a 35mm camera and loaded it with Kodak's color slide film and they took many photos of JW events during the last half of that decade. We travelled mostly in Western Canada to circuit and district assemblies. The color slide film was the preferred documentary method of the JW family then...and then the inevitable get togethers where we had slide shows on big white screens in each other's homes.
I have started to digitize the images and I will share them as I get them scanned and organized. It is a bit slow going as my scanner will only do one at a time. And, I am color correcting and light balancing as I scan them. The slide film is magical to work with...even over exposed and faded images are malleable enough to be receptive to light manipulation. I am sooo happy....and having fun. When wet darkrooms were still the way to do photo printing, one of my favorite processes was cibrachrome. Color printing from color positive slides. Positive to positive...rich true prints...Kodak made good color film. The very best color print there was then (early 90s...I learned wet darkroom processes in university). This work is like that. Without the chemicals. And as a slow as it is, it is still faster than wet darkrooms!
So I would like to start posting as I scan. I will post the printing date on the slide batches and where and when the event happened, to the best of my recollection. Who knows? Maybe someone here will recognize the event. Maybe we attended the same JW assembly! Right, Locutus?
Oh...and before I post any pictures....I want to say that these photos DO have a copyright on them. If anyone is interested in obtaining permission to use them in any way, please contact me for permission to do so.
