Nephew's Engagement Party
My step-nephew just got engaged (hurrah!), and is having a small gathering. He is not and never has been a JW. I was invited to the engagement party, and accepted. My JW dad (who has really been like a grandad to my nephew), and "studying" brother (who was the step-father of said nephew, now divorced from nephew's mum, and whom I believe is faking interest in the JWs) have refused to attend purely because I'm going (I was forcibly disassociated 3 months ago). My nephew was not impressed with that reasoning, and had a bit of an argument with them. For some reason, it still shocks me that my own dad is behaving in such a rude and puerile manner. I shouldn't be surprised, as I've heard so many stories about JWs behaving like that, but to experience such moronic and offensive behaviour first hand still has the power to surprise.
