The WTBTS organization has assets totaling tens if not hundreds of billions of $ while its members are counseled to live lives of poverty. The Governing Body have been proven repeatedly to be unrepentent, bold faced liars. They are also guilty of knowingly covering up pedophilia. Personally, I think they are criminally liable for that. So, what is wrong with these men? They are either criminals who know exactly what they are doing. Or, they are sincere but self deluded by the claim to be "God's mouthpiece". Or, they are sincere but are themselves being misled and controlled by the real owners of the WTBTS's assets. The 50 stockholders of the holding company and the lawyers who control the assets. People who remain anonymous and secret. Or, they are sincere but are controlled by malevolent spirit beings. The Devil and the demons if you like. Personally, I don't believe in the Devil. I do think that malevolent spirit beings exist. What is wrong with the Governing Body of the WTBTS? (Result) Criminal masterminds who know what they are doing. Sincere, but self deluded by believing that they speak for God. Sincere, but controlled by a secret group. Sincere, but controlled by malevolent spirit beings.

Sincere? Sometimes, for some of them, for others they are just men in somewhat powerful positions, and are trying to protect what they have. I don't believe they are controlled by any other group, but I thing they listen carefully to the legal staff and their lawyers. Yammer. "Pray to God, but row towards shore."

And by the way ,why are'nt there any people of color sitting on the Governing Body? Any answers ?

They of course have made a huge number of coverups and errors. The classic to me is the way they change the time of the end date. For decades, people had to sit in the KH and listen to the "millions living now will never die'. Decades. Then all of a sudden-----poof. The idea is suddenly gone and replaced by another date. The amazing thing is how few question it or are even upset by it. It is unreal at times.

Any answers The real question you want to ask is, "why is it that JWs are made up of over 50% minorities, but the Circuit Overseers, District Overseers, Zone Overseers, and Governing Body are over 90% white? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Somehow I had the impression that the remaining members of the GB were waaaaaaay older than those pictured in LeotheTurtle's post. Kinda bummed to see the younger members aboard. It struck me that maybe in time, the really hard-liners would get so old and die off that we'd see some changes in the rigid policies. With the widespread use of the internet, the relaxed standards of what's "decent" on TV and in the movies, and the country's attitude about sex, morality, religion, etc. in general, I have lately thought it must be an uphill battle for those ole boys to keep the troops in line. However, if the younger guys on the GB are as hard-line and hard-nosed as Jaracz, there's no hope. Hmmm. Misguided and partially sincere, maybe, but guilty of playing politics, manipulating bazillions of the rank & file's contribution dollars, and being totally inbred - absofreakinglutely! NowaGolfer

As already pointed out, there's a lot of bad history out there which might cause us to question why they made certain decisions. I think the current crop are probably less restrictive when it comes to Watchtower Policy than governing bodies in the past, and the closer you get to the Rutherford days, the worse it seems to get (although arguably 1975-85 was a low point). Either way something has changed, they had to if you think about it, organisations that don't adapt to a changing world go out of business. This has made me think: there was a fairly big structural change in 2000 wasn't there, I forget what it was - I think the governing body no longer has control over the various corporations and legal instruments the society uses. As a result, the current president of the society is not a member of the GB. Dunno why they did that. There's a guy in that photo named Guy Pierce. I don't believe all GB members suddenly woke up at the same moment in time to the fact that Jehovah has ideas other than their own. Anyone waking up to this idea is trapped inside of the guilt of their own "sin" of lack of faith, the "sin" of disloyallty and the "sin" of no longer recieving the spirit. It is enough to send the most logical thinker into denial. I doubt that any of them on an individual basis really knows how any of the others feel.Together they perpetrate this denial and get swept along in the flood of something that was started centuries ago now and that bears no resemblance to how it all began. I'm sure that if any of them allowed themselves to think it through to the ultimate conclusion, they would sumise that what was begun cannot be ended other than in tragedy - the tragedy of lawsuits by millions who gave up thier live sin the service of a lie. How easy to instead convince themselves that if nothing else it makes better peaceful people out of those who would otherwise be ungrounded and quite literally "lost"( sheep ) How easy to refrain from thinking how much misery many of the WT policies cause. Some-one on this board - I think it was Bill -once said "they have got a tiger by the tail" I think that is it. How do you let go of the tiger ??????????????? It does make you reflect on the bravery of some-one like Raymond Franz who forced himself to think clearly. He obviously never lost his honest heartedness and put that quality above all else. That is intersting about the shareholders and lawers though. I did not know about the 50? shareholders. What are we told after all??????
