I can't believe she's gone back.

A fierce kind of power this "religion" exerts; I can understand how shocking this must be to you by imagining that I had just learned my younger brother had gone back in. I just can't see it happening, would never even occur to me, and the resulting shock would be profound.

Kennewick, eh? Devilish hot down there this time of year. Last time I was in Kennewick was right around this time of year, and it was hell - something like 109 F.

When I think back to the assemblies, sweltering fucking hot, hour after relentless hour of horrible, boring, pedantic rambling, *shudder.* I actually have nightmares about being at assemblies, and wishing I could get the fuck out of there. Why would anyone subject themselves to such punishment?

But that's the key to the pathology. It's punishment, it's painful, it creates long-term damage, and yet people cleave to it, defend it, believe it, or fight to convince themselves that they believe it. And sometimes they go back.

I'm sorry Suzi. I suppose these words don't give a lot of comfort, and I know you love your sister, but don't try to "own" her problem (and it is a problem) - such can tear you down. But it's a damned shame that it should still tug at any of us, in any way. It's like some kind of fucking, soul-sucking vampire that won't fucking die.
