When I was 13, my Mum got rushed to Dorchester Hospital having breathing problems, as they were scanning her she went into Cardiac arrest, realising what the scans were she was rushed to Southampton General for major surgery. She died 3 times in the ambulance and a couple more times in the lift. Turns out she had an aortic anneurysm, she had heart valve replacement and grafting on her aorta. When she woke up (literally black and blue) she discovered they had transfused her with blood- her no blood card had gone missing in transit. Personally I'm thankful, she didnt half kick up a fuss. HLC got involved but nothing has happened regarding her complaint. From my point of view that transfusion saved her life and made sure I still had a mother.
I donate blood now as a result, my mum hasn't said anything when I've opened my wallet and my blood donor card is lurking there. Think it sunk in.

Anyways, when u cook your slab of meat surely there's going to be some blood residue... so much fuss over black pudding :S
