Any thought process which focuses on cutting the middle-men out of ones personal meditations is a healthy thought process IMHO.

Even if that thought process is still being tentatively navigated against the backdrop of an existing scriptural framework.

For those who have long been accustomed to the notion of god-ordained-middle-men acting on their behalf, it can be very affirming to be finally rid of this notion, and it can eventually open up into quite a breathtaking new world-view, the likes of which one could never have imagined whilst one was umbilically attached to the transient moods and whims of an extremely duplicitous American publishing company.
Interesting observation on mediatorship, Mick. Who has "god" given the right to explain scripture through their thought process? JW's teach that anyone can think about the bible, but the FD Slave is the only group where "god" works with the brains involved by holy spirit. (I use the word "brains" loosely image) Since he only works through this small group, a JW is taught that to think and reason on the bible on their own is essentially a waste of time.

Never mind that "god" gave you a brain and holds you accountable for ALL your decisions. A JW is accountable for accepting the thinking of the Governing Body as their own. They are not accountable to anyone but the Governing Body and its hieachael structure.

The Governing Body says the bible is clear when it suits them, confusing when it suits them, and its all to make sure that their take on is what is authoratative is the law. Hey, if a JW has an idea, an opinion that is actually based on his/her reading of the bible and not a WT? Tough luck!

The biggest right (and I mean right) that the Governing Body takes away from their flocks is the ability to think for themselves uninhibited. It really doesn't matter if one views the bible a certain way personally or not. The essential thing is; is that your conclusion? Did YOU think it out? Did YOU look at ALL the evidence, including scholars who as good scholars should, list inconsistencies, contradictions and the like? It's all out there, for those who want to exercise their brain. Ex JW's usually do this a lot better then JW's. image

I've come to the conclusion that they do this because it's self-serving, because they're egotistical egomaniacs, and fundamentally dishonest with themselves. In short, they're perfect JWs. Inconvenient facts be damned, they've got THE TRUTH !!!
JW's and other group think religions and cults attract the self righteous. A friend told me this, and I hadn't thought about it this way before, but it makes sense. Those that are looking for the truth are going to find it. And by truth, they are basically looking for a fixed, dogmatic way to look at the world and people. It suits them. People who look for love, knowledge, etc, also generally find what they are looking for as well.

What are you looking for? You are sure to find it. Best do that with your thinking faculties in full bloom.
