I can mirror some of what Solitare says, when you are born into the dubs and not allowed to question, and you are a people pleaser and just want to ease all situations to avoid conflict, you don't learn that very necessary skill of questioning. But it is NEVER too late to learn it. I am 45 and still working on mastering that skill. When all of the abosulutes in my life disappeared with the JW's, I am now open to everything and I am learning to question instead of just accepting anything in any arena. For example, the dub training of not questioning those in authority carried over to my work. I was fortunate to have a boss that is working with me on it and encouraging the questioning, it wasn't real pretty at first, cause she would ask why I did something and my response was that so and so dictated it, she would get upset that I did not question it......after explaining things to her, she has helped me to grow in this area and it spills over to all areas of life. It IS a vital skill to have, so as not to be lead "down the garden path" ever ever again..........and because of my experience and raising my boys with that JW mindset (which they did not buy into, thank goodness) my advice to them now is to NEVER accept anything anyone tells you at face value, question it and prove it to yourself, don't blindly accept and follow anything or anyone.
