I also recently got one of those tracts from a special campaign in my letter box - that's mailbox to you Americans image

As I live in a large apartment building with security and intercom, I never have to open my door to any strangers, just pick up the intercom phone and ask who's there, so I've had a few JWs do their awkward thing into the microphone downstairs, and I felt a bit guilty at how it easy it was to just say "No thanks" and quickly hang up! I could even do it with people who might recognize me if they saw me, but a voice over a machine like that could be anybody, so I feel blissfully anonymous this way.

But I have another funny "JWs came calling" story with a bit of a twist. It was years ago when I still believed - well, sort of - and was having a secret relationship with someone, feeling guilty, but in my heart knowing I had no reason to. Anyway, one time when I was staying at my boyfriend's place for a while, I was out the back hanging out the washing and when I came back in he said there had just been someone at the door. Two JWs offering the magazines, as it was Saturday morning. I waited for him to continue with bated breath...

He continued with a completely straight and serious face, saying that he simply told them that he already hears all about it from his JW girlfriend who's out the back doing the washing since we're living together.

I was in total shock and burst out saying "How could you say something like that?!? You know that's not funny!"

But he burst into laughter at my reaction and then I realized he was just teasing me! So the joke was on me in the end, but I managed a good laugh myself after I calmed down. JWs did call, but he only told them that he already knows about it from someone else, and that must have been the perfect answer because they left right away!
