I think the best thing you can do with anyone who still thinks Jesus was talking to some "future" generation is just sit down and read the bible with them. Put away any books, anything. Find a bible translation you both like, and just read the account in any of the gospels by itself. After all, if God's word is alive and exerts power, you should be able to understand what it is saying without any auxillary information.

Just a few scriptures;

Matthew 16:27, 28 wrote:
27For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. 28I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

Mark 9:1 wrote:
And he said to them, "I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power."

A simple reading reveals that Jesus thought he was going to be returning to earth VERY soon, and some of his followers would still be around to see it - so at least sometime in their lifetime.

It is ONLY because what Jesus said did not happen that an enormous amount of apologetics must be employed to determine what Jesus meant, and attribute his words to something else entirely.

My style is impetuous.My defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious.I want your heart.I want to eat his children.
Praise be to Allah!
