Hi Anakin,

Welcome to the forum! The study of "last days" is called eschatology. The notion that we're living in a special period of time and just ahead of us great change will be wrought by God is very appealing to many. Certainly this is what has attracted many to the faith of Jehovah's Witnesses. But consider, when Zephaniah wrote "The great day of Jehovah is near. It is near, and there is a hurrying of it very much" (Zeph 1:14) how do you think his first readers would have understood those words? We have no reason to believe the word "near" wasn't meant literally. If Zephaniah wanted to convey the thought the day of Jehovah was 2500 years in the future, it would have been much better for him to say something different wouldn't it?

I know some who have left JWs have do so because they believe they've uncovered the real truth of scripture and feel 607 BCE and 1914 CE are key mistakes. From this they've built up an alternative explanation to show how these things will really be fulfilled. But for me and many of us, this is just a repeat of the same story. The truth is JWs were not the first to concern themselves with eschatology and they won't be the last. However, when you stand back and ask a bigger question: Is there any good reason to believe God exists and the Bible is his inspired word? The simplest and most logical answer is: no. Or, I should say, no for me and many others who are atheists and agnostics.

Here fortunately, expressing your views is welcome. We may disagree on this or that or even big things but that's okay!

May the force be with you always!

Cheers,
Rawe
