New light, good on you for asking and starting your path in realizing what the "truth" is.

Personally, I was scared of demons until very recently (i haven't gone to meetings since '02) for some reason the demon thing and the blood thing took the longest to get over. It wasn't like a constant fear, but if something dropped in the middle of the night or just random occurences from drafts, etc, my brain would instantly think "DEMONS!" and it would take a while to get the thought out. Fortunately, i think the whole thing is as laughable as a chain letter now, and I've got no problems watching a scary movie or one of those cheesy "ghost hunter" shows.

Sabastious made a great point about what our minds can do to us, we are truly our own greatest ally or worst enemy. If something is constantly on your mind, or in the back of it, you are eventually going to hear and see and feel things that aren't true. I think these manifestations explain 99% of all 'ghost' or 'demon' encounters. How many stories have you heard of people being attacked in their bed, alone, at night? Ever have a bad dream or even a good one? Ever wake up from it and not be sure if it really happened? My personal belief is that getting these fears hammered into us for so long creates a very long lasting sense of paranoia that can come out in strange ways.

The other 1%? The unexplainable. There's nothing wrong with not knowing everything about our world, but just like Superpunk said, "throwing up our hands and saying "Goddidit" or demons were involved stunts our intellectual growth"

I know you don't want to read any books about demons and spirits, and i understand why, because you are still afraid of it, but i'm sure you will eventually get to the point where you can, and hopefully its sooner rather than later, that your mind will let you get over it and you can go back to enjoying a stress-free existence.
