Hi Alovejones:

I am happy that you have made the stand to disassociate yourself.

Some people find it helpful and it gives them closure to write a letter.

My advice is to give them no letter, dont answer your door to them. It will completely blow their mind. DO NOT MEET WITH THE ELDERS OR ENGAGE IN ANY CONVERSATION WITH ANY WITNESS EVER AGAIN!

If possible, before you leave you could be very vocal at your last few meetings or associations with the JW's about a new medical condition you have been diagnosed with that makes it extremely difficult to attend meetings and go out in service (depression is a really good general one to use and in most cases with leaving your religion friends and family it is true)

If necessary, file a police harassment report if they show up at your place of business or home, but do it in a sneaky way, like phone the police and dont give them any kind of a warning that you are planning to do so.

The benefit I have found from this is it confuses JW family and friend members that you DO eventually down the road want to stay in contact with. They will think yes you are sitting on the fence for a while or you are drifting and spiritually weak, but because you did not take a stand in writing and send it to the organization, they cant be completely sure!

Your relationship with Jehovah is exactly that. It is between you and Jehovah. You dont have to write ANYONE a letter, let alone a bunch of imperfect men. How dare they come between you and your god. You dont have to explain or define your religion or decisions to anyone. This is what Religious Freedom is.

This takes all their control away from them and confuses the poop out of the elders.

This will make your status "inactive" They wont know what to do! Thats my advice, but no one can decide whats right for you.
