Superpunk: I brought this up as well to my parents after leaving the org. There only reply to that fact that "it's obvious jehovah is blessing their work" was two facts they kept bringing up. One was that they are the only religion that calls upon the name of God...."Jehovah". And two, they're apparent growth is so rapid. When I showed my parents the statistics of their numbers in comparison to other religions such as the Catholics, and showed them how insignificant the JW's are , their reply was, "yeah, but those other religions baptize babies and then count them as members. There numbers are flawed." Which of course launched into a whole debate over how the wbts also baptizes small children as young as 6 years old and how that's wrong as well. There response: "I've known 6 year olds that know more about the bible than my own neighbors!" Geesh.....there is seriously NO getting through to them until there ready to see it.

Right. There's an answer for everything. Once you hit one - they move the goalposts. Whenever I see that, I make a point to tell them that they are doing so, and tell them if they want to continue talking about it they had better either knock it off, or nail down where they want the goalposts, and THEN we can talk about it more.

The trouble we fall into alot of times is that we allow them to control the conversation - easy to do because that's what they're trained to do. But we have the advantage because we already know the tactics, hell we used them too. So once we catch them using circular logic or shifting the goalposts, we can call them out and say unless they want to be honest, and abide by the generally accepted rules of debate, this conversation is over.

Peter: This is how a patriot dresses Lois. Boy I never knew it would feel this good to love my country. It's like loving God or a step-parent, you never really feel them love you back but that's okay cause they got other stuff going on and you understand.
