In my experience, the JW view of women varies quite widely. Some (particularly old school) are very chauvinistic. Others are very respectful and perhaps a little embarrassed by some of the comments about women in the Bible (particularly some of the apostle Paul's comments - I know I was). Most JW women outwardly appear to humbly accept the 'headship principle', but I believe a lot of them find it very difficult to accept the 2nd class status that inevitably comes with it. The official view is that men are responsible for taking the lead in everything and have the final say on all decisions, but women should be treated with love and understanding, like a delicate ornament, and can be delegated a certain measure of responsibility within their own household (based on the 'capable wife' of Proverbs 31), but cannot have any authority in the congregation. The literature tends to be conservative, and some would say chauvinistic but I don't think it could be classed as extreme - I have never seen anything in the publications that I have found shocking in regard to the treatment of women.
