I think my eventual departure from the org. really started because of my sub-conscious anger at the god of the bible.  The treatment of women in the bible is despicable!  How did I ever give a student talk about how they are revered?!  How about the poor concubine who was raped so badly she died, only to then be cut up into pieces (like an episode of the Sopranos) and delivered as a message?!  We were taught that everything in the bible is there to teach us something.  What could this possibly teach anyone?  In this account, there is NO mention of how terribly this woman was treated.

And no matter how it was spun to us, how could we possibly love a god who makes Abraham abuse and almost murder his own son?  At the last second, god pops out and says "Just kidding - mwahhaha!"

And stay with me here - remember how we used the scripture about how god has put eternity into our hearts?  Therefore, as a "loving" god, he would never put a desire for everlasting life into our hearts and then not give it to us.  Right?  So, using that logic, why did he create women to be equal to men, with the same level of intelligence and abilities, and then require that we not use these qualities in the cong. and "be silent."

"If god were one of us" as the song goes, he would be arrested for torture and abuse at the very least.  Good rant James!
