There is a difference between believing in "god" or a higher power and believing the bible to be a historical record showing us the personality of our "creator". Those who believe the bible to be a literal truth would have no alternative but to view the god of the bible as (to over use a brilliant quote) "arguably the most unplesant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser, a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully". To think any other way is to cherry pick scriptures from the bible which show him in a different light, but in my opinion a book that is supposed to be the most important work of literature showing us all the secrets of human history needs to be taken in it's entirety or not at all.

Nice one Van!
