I guess it's like the 1975 thing... it sounds silly to anyone that hasn't lived through it.

I suppose it must............although I truly believed it (as did most jw's at the time), and had no interest in anything that discussed a date after that!!  (no wonder we are a weird generation lol!!)

I wonder, seeing as everybody was preparing for that time (my brothers ex-fil even took out a huge loan cos he thought he wouldn't have to repay it.........how very christian lol!!).............how soon it was forgotten???

Many of those who have joined after that date didn't even realise that the 'end' didn't come................but I wonder just how quickly they managed to airbrush it out of the congregations.???   I suppose many left because of the failed prophecy..........but there were many who just carried on..........maybe they helped the org to downplay the intensity??

I remember doing a 'play' at the local assembly........it was supposed to set be in late 1974.......I was playing a worldly person, who was wondering why they hadn't seen the jw's at their door for a time (as all worldly people do of course!!)...........

We were then informed by a narrator that just before Armageddon the preaching work would stop........so basically if you hadn't heeded the jw's and were still in the world, then it was too late.........the doors were now closed .........

So we were told that the cessation of the preaching work would be literally the last 'sign' smiley: sick

That actually haunted me for years when I had become inactive.............if it had been a while since the jw's had knocked at my door, I used to think back to their 'warning', and literally wait to die at any minute !!!

Of course when they knocked the next time, I was almost glad to see them lol!"!!!  (Yeh, that has worn off now!!)
