Made contact with a mental health professional this week. Big step for me as I didn't know I needed one, never thought I'd need one. I can cope with pretty much anything can't I? No, I can't, I mean I can live, work, have fun, laugh and joke, care about others, enjoy them caring about me, I have a life but "it" doesn't go away. I know some of what "it" is but I think it's like a fungus with threads burrowing into places of which I'm not fully aware. It's also like those stains on walls made by past damp, you paint over it and it's fine for a time but...
I completely understand 100%. I think we prob. all do.

Congrats on taking this important first step. I'll be interested in reading any of your posts in the future if you have anything you find interesting or profound that you are comfortable sharing with us about how your therapy is going.

Well something seems to be in the air this week. I too decided it was time to face the fact that I need to deal with my son's sucicide attempt which happened about 5 years ago and the issues that have arisin since leaving the bOrg last July. I was referred to a psychologist and it just so happens that she and her husband are seasoned sailors as Mr. Rubbity and I are, so maybe that is a good sign. I am also looking forward to the Second Generation ex-cult members workshop in West Cromwell, CT from March 30 through April ! If anyone is planning on attending, please PM me!

The Star Thrower
One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer, he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?" The young man paused, looked up and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean." "I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" "The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die."

"But young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"
The young man listened politely, then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves.

"It made a difference for that one!"
