When I was a child "not passing the plate" was a big thing to the rank and file. My Dad was so vocal about how the "churches" were only out for money. Before I left I noticed that the KH had about 4 different boxes for "contributions". Several times a month the subject of money would come up such as which box was for what and how to be sure that the "free" magazines you picked up at the counter were to be paid for in which box and that you should donate yourself and then any donations that you received for them were to be put in. There were boxes for the "world wide work" (for the society at headquarters) one for building, one for local kingdom hall and I forget what the rest were for. There were parts on the meeting for the accounts that let everyone know that they weren't getting enough to pay the bills. The list goes on. Anyway, that was one change from 50 years ago that disturbed me somewhat. The idea that the "society" would go after elderly people's property was scoffed at by my folks too. I remember when I was a very small child...years ago that an elderly woman wanted to leave her property to the society but when family objected the society bowed out. According to my Dad the WTBTS didn't want any legal problems and wouldn't fit for someone's property. LOL They've come a long way, baby!

Funny thing is if my Dad could read the article that you posted Dis spell he would say that it was the failing or over zealous elder's fault not the Borg. You just can't win an argument with zealous rank and file.
