Oh yes, we've known a lot of welfare families who kept their income low on purpose. Even knew two families where the Mom couldn't work because she was pioneering and homeschooling the kids. Which meant the poor kids were stuck in the back of an old van all day trying to do their homeschool books while Mom was pioneering. What a sad life for them. One of the girls we knew needed extra help she never got, and when she grew up she could barely read. (I found this out when she was assigned to be my householder on the school and her Mom told me she couldn't read notes or a scripture. She was a teenager then.) And here now there is one sister who just works a few hours a month so she can pioneer. She has a son and gets all sorts of assistance. I don't know how she's gotten away with it for so long but the cong thinks it's great.
