Edit: Well, I just realized that I have simply recreated many of Heidi's efforts in my eagerness to identify resources. I will thus delete redundancies, leaving only the fresh stuff below, along with my introductory comments.

OK, folks. The JWs are a destructive cult. We all know it; most of us lived as Jehovah's Witnesses for some portion of our lives. I was born and raised a Jehovah's Witness. Many of us still suffer with all kinds of problems from our negative experience. Lest someone exploit what I offer here as an effort to get an unfounded smear campaign underway, I offer this disclaimer: Whatever action we take to criticize the upcoming film, independently, or collectively, is done because we know better than Joel Engardio what the Jehovah's Witnesses are about. We lived it. We are not merely disenfranchised, disgruntled former members, trying to get even. We know the damage the JWs do, and we desire that the truth be known, in this regard. As well, we desire than none should have to suffer the brainwashing and profound psychological abuse that the JWs employ as control measures.

At knocking.org, you may subscribe to a newsletter which will "inform" interested parties about updates. Sign up for it, so as to keep tabs on what is going on. I signed up, myself.

You may also sign up for Google Alerts, in which you can enter a term or terms you wish to monitor, and Google will send you e-mail alerts whenever a news story breaks on that topic.

www.google.com/alerts?hl=en

Yahoo has a similar service called "newsclipper"

The URL www.joelengardio.com/ is taken. And since it is taken, one can look up the registry in the ARIN "Whois" database. It's him, although the page is undeveloped.

The credits on the Knocking page name the "Reibling Foundation," as one of the funders, but I am able to find no such entity in a comprehensive Web Ferret search. However, I suspect the name "Reibling" applies to the Canadian documentary filmmaker "Dylan Reibling" whose name pops up in association with matters pertaining to documentary funding, etc. I'll try to learn more about him, and see if he really is involved in the funding.

Here's a link to a page soliciting donations for the Knocking project, as well as others, sponsored by filmarts.org. Fill in the amount, get out your credit card, press the button. This org then becomes another target of a letter campaign (as noted by Heidi).:

Congratulations to the director's of "Knocking" given here, at the Bay Area Video Coalition site. There's another target.

A search of the PBS site discloses 37 links that pertain in some way to the term "Jehovah's Witnesses." Something might turn up here, e.g., uncomplimentary info on the JWs from PBS newscasts, or whatever. I haven't had time to go through it, yet.

www.pbs.org/search/search_results.html?q=%22Jehovah's+Witnesses%22&start=0&num=10

PBS has a "Talkback" section where they publish "selected submissions." Unfortunately, you can only comment on programs which have already aired. This could be hammered after the film airs.

Writing individual PBS stations is another option.

Here is a link to a site that will enable you to locate your nearest PBS station:

www.pbs.org/stationfinder/index.html

Another idea: Write your local newspaper. If you're nervous about being identified, ask one of your non-JW friend's if they would be willing to submit it in their name. Write it from the perspective of a friend who is knowledgeable about your experience and JW negativity.

The "Cult Police":

Factnet has user boards.

Getting various Christian church councils onto the bandwagon might help, as well. They have considerable clout at various levels, and most of them don't like the JWs. Here is a link to worldwide Church and Ecumenical organization websites:

I doubt if it's possible to stop the film, and that's not a very good idea to try, anyway, for a number of reasons. Damage control is the agenda, however that might be accomplished. Factually exposing the flaws in the film, and making them known.

Best,
Dean
