So, do the people genuinely look happy? What memories does this bring back for you?

So they had the 2009 "International Convention" . . . |

where we used to go for the District Conventions, as Jack Murphy Stadium (now called Qualcomm Stadium), but it used to get very hot there sitting in the sun.
Here is a link to the convention. As you will see, people had these huge tarps to give them cover from the sun. One time, our congregation was given the
assignment of watching the donation containers (this was at Dodger Stadium, btw), and we had great seats on the first tier and in the shade. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EMhMoyIri8&feature=related

We never had a pretzel stand at our conventions! We never got to wear Chargers tees and shorts to conventions!
I don't feel bad about the heat and the sun. That's San Diego's fault. People in hot climates in the US have this thing about telling the rest of us in colder climates... "but look at our beautiful weather!" - as they dash from their air conditioned house to their air conditioned car to their air conditioned buildings. Sorry, I just think it's stinking hot, and if that's what you want, then there you have it. in my head there's a greyhound station

Aw - conventions were the only part of being a JW that I actually enjoyed :-( At the beginning of the video, it sounded just like the opening of The Sound Of Music'........I was waiting for Maria to start singing
This international convention is far more colourful than the ones in UK - we were lucky if we got 2 people in national costume.......if we did, they were surrounded by gawpers lol!! Read the comments under the video..........that brought me back to reality........."can't wait for the new songbook" ...Yep, that used to be the highlight of our lives
Oh - btw.....anyone think this comment really came from a Catholic????????? Mmmm - I smell a rat here........so Catholics use words like 'sound doctrines' and 'God's visible organisation on earth' *huh* they're not even good liars!!!!! Yeh...........definitely realistic........... Sam

The music made me sick. It's not so much that it's bad music, but that they all loved it soooo much. In fact, it seemed that the only approved music
one could listen to were the "Kingdom Melodies."
We used to have a woman who could play the piano quite well, and we had a nice piano in our hall that she played when we stood up for the songs. Well, the society in their great wisdom decided that we had to be "in unison" (don't care for this word either), so, they came out with the cassettes, and we had to switch to the cassettes. No more could the woman play her piano, which, she was dissappointed about as well. They also boarded up all of the windows for some, probably lame, reason. I was gone by that time. You know solitaire, I'm not sure about that guy's comments, "artstudiescritic." I kind of think he is being sarcastic. How can he be so convinced that, as a Catholic, every time he reads "the Holy Bible," the Jehovah's Witness "organization 'belongs' to God"? Naah, I don't think so. Plus he uses words that sound like they're coming from a witness, such as "visible organization." Pauley |

I guess my thought was that they present this 'unity' like it ONLY happens within their organization and at their International assemblies. You can get
snaps like that from the conventions of other denominations and even groups that are not affiliated with religion. Having people in their national dress for a
few days at a convention does not equal a loving organization.
I noticed in one shot an an African brother surrounded by two Hispanic brothers. I don't know what any of their actualy ethnicity was but I wonder if they knew about the inequality in treatment the GB decided the brothers in Malawi deserved as opposed to what the brothers in Mexico deserved? Yep, that's love alright. Harm none, do what ye will |

My favorite moments of conventions were the orchestral arrangements of the kingdom melodies that they played as a signal for everone to start finding their
seats. Worked best on the first day, naturally, while the general mood was 'looking forward' and everyone was still being very polite.
Ah, if only the world was perpetually stuck in the 1940's...the watchtower cool aid might not be so bad... |

Ah yes, the 2009 International Convention. I actually went to that same convention this year in San Diego. It was that very convention that was to be my very
last.. It's funny, because when my parents found out I was leaving the organization, the convention was one of the first things she threw in my
face...."Don't you remember the genuine love of all the brothers and sisters you felt at this years district convention??"....."Why
yes," I replied to her, "I do! But that genuine love does not mean that what the WBTS teaches as doctrine is right. The friends were very sweet, very
loving at times, but it was only on the surface. Take them out of that element, out of the stadium , away from the District Convention and put them back into
their local Kingdom Halls and then tell me if that love was indeed genuine. I could bet you money that they do not act that way in their own hometowns or in
their own halls." All I got in return from my mother was ,"oh you have definatley been poisoned by Satan!" OMG!!!!
(*I know who made this video. I also made a video after that DC this year for youtube which received over 20,000 hits the first week. I was pretty proud of it. But again, it was all just a sham. As I came back from a love filled lunch break, I'd sit down and listen to all the utter bullshit the speaker was trying to sell me from the stage. I ended up getting up out of my seat several times out of disgust.) |

should be from a some King Arthur movie....... But exactly how Beth said put them back in their usual element and what do ya got? People I'd rather not be
