I get a lot of time to think when I'm working, and recently it's been going round and round my head what I would do if I met witnesses who I didn't know.
More than anything, I want to make them think about the religion, and break free. I know individuals aren't the cause of the WT's and I genuinely want to help them. I don't know what subject to mention to them that will make them think about what they're doing without making them think I'm a loony apostate and disregard anything I say. (Or perhaps even my mum or dad in the years to come)
I worry that if i get put in that situation, I'll end up saying things that sound like I made it up. Like I don't want to just say: Yeah, the WT is a member of the UN, look it up. Or, the WT supported Hitler in the beginning, you should look it up.
If I was confronted with that as a witness, I would just back off, disregard it as lies and not bother looking it up.
I'd start off by saying something along the lines of: "I used to be a witness..." That's make them perk up and think they'd met a fellow witness they can get back to meetings single handedly.
Then maybe "I want to warn you that everything isn't quite right once you look into it, please, please do your research and don't be scared to ask questions about stuff. I was too scared for years, and it made me unhappy for many years until I finally broke free" "Trust me, I know everything you've been taught, I was a regular pioneer for 3 years and preached everything you preached. But once you look into it, it just doesn't make sense"
Then I'd like to do the illustration of buying a camera, and not being allowed to research independently about it and how weird that would be that you couldn't get outside opinions.
What do you think is best to bring up? I quite like the fact that the WT changes it views on blood fractions, organ donation etc. Not sure how to put it so that a witness can't just say 'oh, imperfect people'.
The UN and Hitler things are great, but unable to give evidence that they can't just pass off as lies....
Disfellowshipping is a good one too, but again would like some input from others about the best way to put it?
I feel like I need to be prepared, and I don't want the miss the opportunity when it does eventually come. I'd hate to miss out on 'saving' someone when possible.
