If it was that one I reacted badly with side effects but my experience was out of the ordinary so I don't want to discourage you from trying it. Just keep track of how you feel and any side effects as with any meds. Big hugs and I hope you start feeling better soon.

He spent a few months taking them one day and not the next. Once the serotonin levels were back on track and he worked through his work related stress and other issues that spilled into our home life ...... he did really well on them. He was given a different brand of differing strength to begin with and they didn't work at all. As Helia suggested ... keep a track of how you're feeling and keep in touch with your GP. They can take longer than four weeks to kick in properly and there are some people who don't even notice a change because it's such a gradual process. There are side effects to any anti-depressants so it's always good to read up on what they are and ask your GP or pharmacist questions ...... but try not to dwell on the side effects as it can be easy to start imagining things when you're already feeling emotionally fragile mate. When I started taking it for the first days I couldn't sleep and felt nauseous but this eased off by itself. Later I didn't feel any more side effects, just felt happier in general. GET WELL SOON!!

MVP (Most Valuable Poster) Posts: 779 Jan 6 12 12:48 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I took Lexapro for two years, and it was one of the very few anti-depressants that both worked for me at a very low dose and did not produce any noticeable side effects (except, of course, low libido, which I have found is always a problem on SSRIs). I stopped taking it when it stopped working for me, which seems to happen with long-term use. Another thing I learned about myself is that I always need to start at low dose, not even considered a "therapeutic dose", and work from there in order to avoid killer side effects. Years later when I tried it again I had unbearable side effects including full-blown mania, and I am not bi-polar. I have seen this happen with others in my family and circle of former dub friends as well. Re-introducing a drug you have had long-term exposure to can be deadly! I really think anti-depressants are at times the only way to go, but for myself are not good for long-term (over one year) use at a time, but your doctor will help you with that, and everyone is different. Last year I took Cymbalta for 10 months and had to get off it due to a 30 lb. weight gain. My doctor was not happy with me; he said, "Well, the worst thing that can happen, is that you will end up in the hospital." That may sound a little cruel, but he's a cool doc, listens to me and insists I bring my little doggie to visit him for *his* "doggie therapy". Now I go to the gym for strength training, cardio and stress relief. Now that I am out of the bOrg, I am doing so much better and am medication free, even with all the exiting issues I am still dealing with on a daily basis! Dude, you will be just fine! And BTW, I am still waiting for an answer from both you and SwingLifeAway on your thread on the Free and Clear Board!

Posts: 28584 Jan 7 12 2:00 AM Forum Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've just spoken to my aunt whose 19 year old granddaughter (my cousin) has been experiencing issues with the anti-depressants she's been prescribed following her father's untimely death three years ago. Her mum (a psychologist) has a rather lax approach in that 'she'll be alright in time' ..... whereas my aunt and I both agree that the medication she's on (she has night terrors and her anxiety levels have risen) are totally wrong for her. My aunt is a former nurse and even she knows that the benefits or side effects of anti-depressants vary from one person to another .... and that going back onto medication at a later date doesn't mean the original medication prescribed will work again in the same way. Its made a noticeable difference in my depression and anxiety. The only side effect so far was slight nausea, but I make sure to take it with food and after the first 2 weeks it stopped. For me therapy has been the best help, but I finally reached a plateau where I needed something else to help me keep improving. I am less likely to take things the wrong way, and just generally feel brighter and more like myself. Good luck and feel better soon!
