Mother dropped lots of hints about it but I didn't take her bait. Mr bright knew it was on and didn't seem to give attending it a single thought... Win! I guess my only hurdle now is the memorial. Shudder. If anyone asks, I'm thinking of saying that this year, I'm going to show Jesus my thanks and respect in my own way. Speaking of Jesus, it's funny but I still believe he existed and was a great example for us to follow HOWEVER I no longer seem to be able to believe in a loving god. Strange isn't it? There's no need to attend these events where credit cards are now accepted, because we know what's going to be said. 1. Obey the GB. 2. Do more. 3. You are worthless. 4. The end is SOON. 5. JWs are perfect and Non JWs are evil scum. 6. No education. Be a thickie. 7. OBEY THE GB OR GOD WILL LOVINGLY MURDER YOU SOON. 8. Repeat all the above in a different order then 'overlap'(TM) with 'new light'(TM) and Robert is your father's brother! it's funny but I still believe he existed and was a great example for us to follow HOWEVER I no longer seem to be able to believe in a loving god. Strange isn't it? Not strange at all. The 'mind cleansing' we all went thru' is a 'rule or ruin' thing. If the WBT$ can't own you and get all your money when you die then they'll screw with your head so no one gets you. I still go to church as I enjoy the buzz.........as for what I believe now is anyone's guess but if asked I'm a Christian. I don't obsess about it (not that you'd notice.......) Yeah, I decided not long after mentally leaving that I'm okay with being agnostic. I don't HAVE to know all the answers, and I'm learning lessons as I go along thru life. Lessons about me and what I believe is right and plausible. It's a scary and exciting time all at once. I can't describe how good it feels to finally think freely. People who have never been involved with a cult will never understand this feeling. So again I'd like to thank all of you on here for the support and understanding. I won't name names, but there are a handful of you I really look up to. You all have differing beliefs and I love that! I am sure people thought it was an "attack of conscious" but I clearly know it was whatever it is that makes you finally say "Ok that is some BAD stuff! Never again!"... I never made an excuse to no longer attend the memorial. I am adult and it's my right to choose and noone was surprised and noone even bothered me at all. Good luck!!

If they push the issues ... remind them that they've raised you really well and that it would be wrong to pay lip service to something you no longer believe in ... or if you wish to let them down more gently, that it would be wrong to partake of such a sacred event without your whole heart being involved. Use their own words and phrases BaH ........ it's better being honest and using their words than conjuring up an excuse. I used similar logic with my parents. My dad took it well ... my mum thought I was trying to bamboozle her with words, until I told her they were WBTS words! Regarding the assemblys, I like it when we still have some of our members attending cos we can keep up with the latest scare-mongering, and I have noticed that we often get an influx of newbies if the fear tactics hit a raw spot!! So thats about the only positive to emerge from any assembly

I've made it pretty clear to anyone who will still talk to me that I'm not at all interested, so they generally leave me alone. The one exception was when my mother somehow convinced my grandmother to invite me to a memorial a few years back. I do not wish to be disrespectful to an well meaning 85 year old woman, so I just said that I work really late every weekday and was unable to attend. That's actually not inaccurate as I'm normally not home until after 7 in the evening. With that kind of schedule, I imagine I would get many "shepherding calls" if I was still a cult member.

She got pretty flustered at me for picking that weekend to fly to San Diego to visit my friend. And...she thought I was making it up as an excuse to get out of going, she literally asked me if I was telling her the truth! LOL Side story here, this all happened after I just moved back home from separating from my ex husband, so she thought she could have extra influence at getting back to attending major JW events...memorial, assembly, and district convention, all invites through persuasion from other friends of hers failed by the way. The funny part was that she did this all in front of my non-JW dad, and he stuck up for me and said "She said She's not going to be in town A****!" It was priceless. lol Because he has been attending the memorials with my mom for the past 10 years, which has been giving her false hope that he will somehow convert to being Jdubby borg member. I love my dad, he is awesome and I am glad he never converted to being a JW.
