I have done quite a bit of research into topics that concern the Watchtower Society's structure, business dealings, and history.
One of our posters (Michelle) had suggested that I make a post that puts some of my threads in one spot to make them easier to access.
Some of my ideas, and conclusions about what this research revealed, are controversial so that is why I am putting these threads on the Debate and Controversy board.
The bulk of my research was prompted by a thread that Michelle started 4 and a half years ago called "the Real Reason For the Preaching Work". It was on that thread where I abandoned the tactic of trying to figure out what the religion of the JWs was all about with a 'religious' eye, and I started to look at how the WTS functioned as a "nonprofit organization". My experiences in the past, working with nonprofits both as an employee for an artists' collective and as a director on the board of an art gallery, led me to examine nonprofit structure and how that would impact the religious beliefs and behavior of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
The recent makeover of the JW religion into its new cyber religion look, and the recent restructuring of the WTS, makes some of the information on this thread outdated, but the information is still pertinent as to how the JW religion is shaped by outside influences like tax laws. And by medicine.
This next thread follows the lines of exploration that the first thread brought up and it starts with an examination of the JWs in WW2:
And another thread about the connections between Heinrich Himmler and the Jehovah's Witnesses in WW2:
Some random threads concerning the history of the WTS:
And a thread that halbanana started about the Governing Body. On this thread, I examine the Henwood paper scandal that involved the paper buying department of the WTS:
A thread started by Andria in which I discuss the 1941 "Children of the King" convention and how the WTS' indoctrination of children had a hidden motive to fight first amendment rights:
I guess I should qualify myself - I have had so many people ask me why I have done this research and it is usual for a person to state their qualifications to lend credibility to their research and conclusions.
In addition to a wide experience gained from working in many different fields of work, I was fortunate enough to acquire an education at a Canadian university. I received my degrees late in life, receiving my Masters degree when I was 39.
These are my degrees:
BA in Psychology (3 yr) - awarded with Great Distinction
BFA in Photography (4 yr) - awarded with Great Distinction
MFA in Intermedia
I taught at the university for several years after graduating, and now that I no longer teach, I spend the bulk of my time pursuing lines of research connected to the work that I started when pursuing my education - the study of power and the politics of representation with a concentration on the history of the Russian Empire and the years leading up to the Russian Revolution.
It has been my university education, combined with life experience, that has given me the skills and training required to evaluate research material, develop theories to explain the research, and arrive at conclusions. Why I have done this research is simply that is part of my research into my family roots. I was born into the JW religion and dismantling the WTS is critical to me for understanding how, and why, I arrived at where I am today.
