My dad is a dumpster diver
My dad, 82 years old, had had a massive heart attack, rides his bike through the "good" neighborhoods of South St. Louis alleys. When he sees something that someone had put out by the dumpster that looks good, he goes back in his car and gets it. He just can't leave something that looks good. He brings me a LOT of stuff he's rescued, and most of it goes into my dumpster or to Goodwill. lol But sometimes he hits paydirt. lol He recently picked up a bag of clothes and shoes, all name brand, which my daughters were able to pick through and found some nice things. I got a legitimate Coach purse with matching wallet and would you believe, a small diamond ring. It had a Kays Jewelers box. I asked my dad if he wanted to go back to where he got the stuff to ask if they put out the ring by mistake, but he said it was an apartment so wouldn't know who put it out. He told me to keep the ring to sell or whatever I wanted. Well, I had been planning on buying a cheap wedding band since my old one doesn't fit me anymore, and I lost it. I wanted to get one for when I return to working as a substitute teacher. In the past, the kids would often ask me if I were married. I'm assuming that since they knew me as Mrs. Murphy, yet I wasn't wearing a ring, they wondered if I were divorced. So wearing a ring should put a stop to the questions. lol I"m amazed at the good stuff my dad gets on his finds, and the good stuff I get from Goodwill. I found a real nice Alfred Dunner blazer to wear to work, at Goodwill, for just four dollars. Fun times.
