It actually is a major and critical date because the jw's base their date calculation of the 'time of the last days' as beginning in the year 1914. They calculate the 1914 date based on their assumption that Jeruselum fell in 607 BCE...
The above has been the jw stance for as long as I can remember and still is their stance.
Unfortunately, a keen eye and a bit of research will show that 607 BCE was not the fall of Jeruselum----All evidence points to the year 587 instead. If true; it creates huge issues for the Jehovah's Witness organization as the year 1914 has always been one of their most critical 'key' assumptions and longest standing fundamental beliefs---
