As adults, we sometimes forget that we use expressions that we understand perfectly, but a small child would have no way of understanding. Children take what
we say literally and must be so perplexed by us grownups sometimes. Keep these facts in mind when I tell this short story about an experience I had with a
darling little boy in Walmart the other day.
I had finished my shopping and had checked out and was fixing to leave. I had to maneuver my cart between a supporting post and a very adorable little boy of about 3. I wasn't sure that I would have enough room and was sure that if he didn't scoot back a little, I would run over his toes. So I looked at him and said, "Watch your toes Honey." Well, of course in my thoughtless grownup mind, I was trying to get him to move back so I didn't run over his toes. So what do you suppose that little boy did? Yup, he looked down and stared intently at his toes just like I had told him to do. He was probably wondering why he had to watch his toes, but watch his toes he did! He was almost bent right in half looking at his toes. So cute!!!! My husband was with me and on our way out, I asked him if he had seen what that dear little boy had done and he said yeah, and we chuckled all the way out to the truck! I so love the little ones. They are pure joy! Michele
