I fully believe the creation story is just a myth, but still can't wrap my mind around how xtians can still believe in this story.
Like in the beggining, gods spirit was roaming too and fro over the surface of the waters.....did he already create water?, or was it already there when he got there?
A certain scripture used to say, "and god had not caused it to rain and every living thing died/every tree of the field died", I haven't seen that in any modern bibles but I know for sure I read it several years ago......so whoa, god made a mistake in creation, didn't he know if it didn't rain everything would die. This I believe is why there are two creation accounts.
There are two accounts of humans being created, the second account happening after everything had died. And so he makes just one man, Adam.Tells him all the animals are subject to him, to eat anything he wants except for that tree of knowledge of good and bad in the center of the garden. Then all the sudden god realizes Adam is all alone, so he decides to make a woman to help him out.......we always hear about it was gods original intention of filling the earth with humans, well it appears woman was an after thought, like, "oops, oh yeah, I need a woman to populate the earth", slaps himself on the forehead. And so he takes a rib out of Adam...where the hell did he get the rib to make Adam from? Why didn't he just make Eve out of the dust and mud of the ground?
And what about the animals? Were told that the snake was doomed for all eternity, it still reads, "from this day forward you shall go about on your belly eating dust". Does that mean snakes used to have legs? Or was it a snake at all? And as far as I know, snakes don't eat dust. And why curse a created animal when the bible say's that the animal was possessed by the devil?
And this whole evil coming into the world thing....well if god created everything, that means he created evil as well, knowing the full ramifications of doing so.
And this tree of knowledge of good and evil?...what, god didn't trust his own creation? "I better put a tree there to test them, to see if they will listen to me, I don't know, but that free will stuff has got to be tested? What if Eve actually was throwing the test back in gods face by eating the fruit? After all, it was a tree of knowledge of good and evil, they ate of it and BAM! they knew good from evil.....they realized their naked bodies were evil, does that mean god created bodies to be evil? For cryin out loud! how the hell are you going to populate the earth having clothes on?(unless they were into lunch time quickies).
Along with this tree thing, preachers now aday's tell us that we need to be aware of what is good and what is evil.....wait, back up a minute, didn't Adam and Eve get punished because they all of the sudden after they ate the fruit, know good from evil?
We also hear that it's a matter of universal soverienty, all the angels were looking on as all this went down and god needed to show them who was in charge.....wait a minute, he can kill off thousand upon thousands of men women and children for not believing in him, yet he can't do that to the angels? Does he really have power over them? Or do they have power over him?
Bet you won't find these lines of thought in your average church.
